Business implementation
A change management plan helps manage the change process, and also ensures control in budget, schedule, scope, communication, and resources. The change management plan will minimize the impact a change can have on the business, employees, customers, and other important stakeholders.
Kotter's 8-Step Model is the change management strategy I'm implementing at AH Classics. This procedure is intended to assist in the successful implementation of organizational transformation. This concept emphasizes the importance of creating urgency in order to effect change. In eight phases, it takes you through the process of initiating, managing, and sustaining change.
Advantages of using this tool are that It is more comprehensive, which works to its benefit because it lays out explicit phases for the transition process. However, because of the method's rigidity, steps cannot be bypassed, and the process might take a long time to complete.
-
Creating a sense of urgency: Based on the analysis done using SWOT analysis we can interpret the future scenario, by portraying what could happen to the business to AH classics owner and the employees can create a sense of urgency.
-
Guiding coalition: This can be done by creating leadership within the team, focusing on setting goals, developing an environment of trust and commitment.
-
Right vision: Developing vision to direct the initiative and to develop effective strategies to help AH classics achieve it. It helps create a picture of what the future of the organization looks like once the change is implemented.
-
Communicating the change vision: To have an effective and clear communication channel.
-
Empower Actions: Enabling the action plan by removing obstacles that block the organization's path to achieve the change vision.
-
Create short-term wins: Achieving complete real transformation may take time. To keep the momentum and to encourage employees it’s important to have short-term goals.
-
Don’t give up: Sustaining the implementation of change without giving up.
-
Make change stick: Create best practices, retrain the workforce.
I was able to understand the structured way of adapting to change in any organization or a business. Kotter’s 8-step model for change management is an easy step-by-step model which provides a clear description and guidance on the entire process of change and is relatively easy for being implemented.
Another alternative and similar tool for planning and implementing change for AH classics is Lewin’s unfreeze change & re-freeze model. Comparatively, it is a short and simple technique because it involves only 3 steps. These are known as ‘unfreeze’, ‘transition’, and ‘freeze’.
